Win tickets to see Tony Award-winning God of Carnage

“Gleefully nasty fun,” according to the New York Post, this hysterical hit Broadway comedy is finally coming to the North Bay!
Following an altercation between their 11-year-old sons, Annette and Alan Raleigh agree to meet Veronica and Michael Novak to discuss the situation civilly – practice the art of co-existence rather than slaughter each other with insurance claims and lawsuits. However, the veneer of polite society soon falls away as the couples begin to regress to childish accusations, bullying and bickering.
You’ve never laughed so hard until you’ve seen this action-packed, knockout farce, which won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Play and 2009 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. Eight performances weekly; get your tickets here.
To win a pair of tickets to the Thursday, May 31 production of God of Carnage, email sfbgpromos@sfbg.com by Friday, May 25 with your name, mailing address, and phone number and put “God of Carnage” in the subject. One lucky winner will receive a pair of tickets in the mail.

Taste of Potrero: Fundraiser for Daniel Webster Elementary

All of San Francisco's top restaurants and bars in one room at the same time?
That is exactly what Taste of Potrero is offering with a lineup including Ame, Local Mission Eatery, Nojo and Skool to just name a few. Pair that with cocktails from the Homestead and Comstock and wines from Urbanite Cellars, and you'll have a truly fantastic event.
An added bonus is the fact that all proceeds go to Daniel Webster Elementary (DWE) School. DWE is a struggling public school in potrero hill slated for closure just five years ago. The reason DWE still here today is because of the strong local community rallying together to save it, and then maintaining that support with fundraisers like Taste of Potrero. We look forward to seeing you on May 10th!

The Guardian Presents: 4/20 Stoned Soul Picnic (a benefit for Americans for Safe Access)

With the feds cracking down on cannabis dispensaries all across the country, it is now more important than ever that we support safe access to medical marijuana. Caitlin Donohue, the Guardian's culture editor and writer of the weekly Herbwise cannabis column, writes:
“The medical marijuana community has been held in limbo over the past year. Federal government agencies have threatened Bay Area patients' access to their cannabis, and dispensaries have been shutting down right and left, with little support from our city or state government. This 4/20, the Guardian wants to show its support for medical marijuana by raising money for Americans for Safe Access, which has been an important voice for patients in the middle of political turmoil. But we didn't want it to be stiff, or a downer -- this is a holiday to celebrate cannabis culture, after all. So a free event on the El Rio patio with DJs, comedians, AND grilled cheese sandwiches? Forget about it, it's gonna be rad.”
Please join the Guardian for a Stoned Soul Picnic, our contribution to Cannabis activism where all proceeds from the evening – including bar proceeds from 4-6pm, donations, and raffle ticket sales – will go directly to Americans for Safe Access. ASA is the largest national member-based organization of patients, medical professionals, scientists, and concerned citizens promoting safe and legal access to cannabis for therapeutic use and research.
The Guardian’s Stoned Soul Picnic will feature:
- DJ Carnita (Hard French) spinning stoned soul grooves as well as a special 420-themed reggae set from DJ Mr. Lucky (I&I Vibrations)
- Stand-up comedy from Travis McFarland (LA), George Chen (SF), and Jesse Fernandez (Berkeley)
- Safe Cannabis resources and outreach from dispensaries and activist organizations, including American for Safe Access, Sweetleaf Collective, Oakland 420 Evaluations, and more
- Raffle tickets with awesome prizes, including Roughneck skate brand goodie bags, museum tickets, restaurant gift certificates, stoner paraphernalia, medical marijuana evaluations, and more
- A free LiveFoto photo booth with marijuana-themed props
- Three kinds of stoner-friendly grilled cheese sandwiches made by Apothocurious for purchase
Friday, April 20 from 3:30-7pm @ El Rio, 3158 Mission, SF | FREE (donations encouraged), 21+ w/ID | Find our event on Facebook here.

Following the Stoned Soul Picnic: Red Hots Burlesque presents Reefer Madness! with performances by Dottie Lux, AJ Molecular, Bella Trixx, Francine Dead, Truvy Trollop, Miss Bliss and Vaudie Va Boom….and on 4/20, the added bonus of an appearance from the green goddess, Miss MJ herself! Come eat, smoke, drink, laugh and enjoy.
The Show includes a screening of Refer Madness!, as well as a DJ set from Alex BIG Cox, FREE Oysters and BBQ at El Rio's famous happy hour (voted The Guardian’s Best of the Bay), and a raffle to donate to your favorite charity or non-profit.
Red Hots Burlesque starts at 7:30pm, $5-10, 21+ w/ID
